Then on October 17th we're hosting an Extreme Cowboy Race, Chili Dinner, and Cowboy Poetry and Music by Roger Olsen, Peggy Helland, and Chelsea Frortin!  I hope you'll join us on this fun family day!  We will have vendors in the Training Center too!  Clothes, Artwork, Jewelry, Equine Products, Home Decor and more!  The money is going toward the upkeep of the horses and the facility and a portion will go th the non prof.for helping local women.

Legacy gets stopped in her tracks...

Training Tips

We were trail riding at Peggy's farm last week.  It was my first time to take Kisses (the white medicine hat paint mare) and Legacy (the sorrel paint filly) off the Farm for a trail ride.  It was so beautiful, the weather was perfect, and the friends were good.  Kisses was quite 'looky ' , but she maintained.  Legacy was pretty relaxed most of the time.  ,,,And then we got to the rushing white rapids!  Oh my.  Kisses looked at them and took a big jump...we made it.  Legacy, on the other hand, planted her feet and decided she would not risk her life; no matter what.  I crossed back over those roaring waters with Kisses; this time her jump was more of a hop.  We tried everything to get Legacy to go with us across the white rapids; but not a chance.  My friend Brenda was riding her.  I crossed back over with Kisses severl times.  By this time Kisses had the water crossing down pat...piece of cake.  After about a half hour and all kinds of asking, moving body parts, backing, telling, demanding; Legacy crouched down and then launched across that roaring white rapids!  When she got over she let out the biggest sigh of relief.  The really funny, yet sad, part is that the roaring rapids was only about 8 inches across and was meandering so slow you could hardly see movement.  I kept wondering what Legacy was seeing that scared her so much.  What could cause a 1000 lb. horse to be terrified of an 8 inch babbleing brook?

Happy September To You!..

Fall is here, the grape vine leaves are starting to turn dark red.  Amanda, Emmy, Emily, Brenda, Tia, Peggy and I have been trail riding alot, getting ready for the Extreme Cowboy Race, October 17th.  We've had all kinds of adventures, named trails, set up new obstacles, and road alot of miles.  Some of my favorite trails are Barbie Bottom, Barbie Bumps, Brenda's Curve, Peggy's Litlle Cedar, Oh Crap Drop,  What Happens In the Woods Stays in the Woods, and Winged Horse Way,  We've been having such a good time just enjoying our horses and each other.  The other day when I was riding my horse Kisses, she started to shake violently, buck, twist and turn, back into the trees, and rear up.  None of which is normal for her.  I had to pony her back to the barn;  Emmy jumped on her for me.  Turns out she has hives!  She's a horse.  Horses shouldn't get hives!  Leave it to my Barbie horse to get a rash, get poofy, and turn bright pink!  I wasn't sure what was going on.  I thought she was throwing a fit because she wanted to go back to the barn.  I got after her.  It didn't help at all, in fact she kept acting worse.  When I got back to the barn and saw how really pink she was, all her veins popping out, muzzle swolen and rashes all over, I felt soooo bad.  I had judged her unfairly.  I punished her for something she couldn't help.  She needed me and I wasn't there for her.  It made me wonder how many times I've done that to people in my life.

Looking Forward!

Women and Horses Experiential Healing Seminar is coming up September 4th and 5th.  We had an amazing experience last time; it was life changing...really!

We also have a Fund Raising Day Planned.  We're doing an Extreme Cowboy Race!  It will be a great time for any level rider and any kind of horse.  Everyone can be involved.  There will be 10 obstacles, and you can choose to skip two of them.  It will be timed and points taken off for misses or hesitations.  The race will cost $45.00 per ride, an Extreme Cowboy Race t-shirt will be included with entry fee.  Prizes will be given.  There will be vendors, a silelnt auction, mini horse cart rides, and a 50 50 raffle.  We're also  having a Chili Dump Dinner, so bring your favorite red chili to add to the feed trough!  Along with the chili we'll have corn muffins, honey, and baked apples with ice cream!  Dinner will be $15.00 for adults, $5.00 for children 12 and under.

All proceeds from the fund raiser will go toward the upkeep of the farm, and the horses.  We need your help so we can continue to serve the community!  Thankyou ahead of time!

Focus

Training Tips

Yesterday I was giving a lesson.  We were working on square and arch turns.  I decided to hop up, (o.k., use a mounting block)  on Kisses and ride with her, bareback and using a halter and lead rope.  After explaining how to do each and demonstrating each, at a walk, through a little course of cones, poles, and a bridge, I moved it up to a trott.  Now, I've been working with Kisses for quite a few months and she is very light and engaging.  As I picked up the trott, I was telling my student what I was intending to do,and asking her to do the same...follow the leader...  Well,  I was looking strait ahead while I was explaining and showing her how to do a left square turn...and on que, just as I had taught her she did a quick, light, pivot to the left...and I, looking forward, nearly landed on my butt!  I had spoke out where I intended to go, I had given a que to go in that direction, but I had not focused on my goal!  I wasn't looking were I wanted to go and I almost fell off!  I laughed, took a fear cleansing breathe and tried it again.  This time to the right.  Pick up your right arch reign, use your right leg, and.....whoa!..I almost fell off again (starting to look like a ding batt now). Once again, I had my aides and my ques in place but I wasn't looking, focusing on my destination.  We always go where we look.

Consider this!

Uncontaminated trust. To be as if nothing contanimated, polluted or tainted trust! To be brand new! This is trust in the revelation of Jesus and realization of the completeness of the gift of salvation!!! WOW!!

Dance more joyfully!!

Sue Isler donated a beautiful english saddle, pad, and gerth!  She brought it just before a lesson that I really needed it for!  The need arose, and Sue obeyed her inner prompting, and whaa-laa!  A miracle!  Very cool!  You go Sue!

We are now an official club!  Our President is Peggy Helland, Vice President/Marketing, Debbie Haglund, and Secretary, Susie Ula.  How exciting!  Sarah Rhoe was the first to 'move' that we close our first official meeting!  Yea, how fun!  We have our first out of state members, Sherry Moore from California and Beth Dalton from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma!  Both ladies have an equestrian center of their own that they use as ministry bases!  They have both come into relationship with Unbridled Faith Farm and are now Certified thru us to do Women and Horses-Experiential Healing Seminars!

Position and Collection

Training Tips

I was riding with my friends at our Private Lesson Clinic with Patty Johnson.  I was working on canter departures.  Patty reminded me that it's the first three steps of the transition that determine the outcome of the canter.  When I got in the correct position I could ask her to canter and the result would be a soft, lifted departure that felt wonderful and was simple for both my mare and me!  When each part was put together the whole became a thing of beauty and joy!  All of the ladies at the clinic left feeling so wonderful about their rides and their time at the Farm!

When we get soft and movable in the hands of our rider-guide (the Holy Spirit) He will put us is the best and easiest position for success.  He is committed to bringing out our natural gifts and talents so we can totally engage ourselves in the ride of our life!  Correct positioning is imperative for collection.  Collection is necessary to transition smoothly from one movement to another.  Just as a horse has to be soft, supple, engaged and willing, so do we.  We have to give total trust to our rider-guide!  He knows what moves have to stop and which movements need to change.  He also releases and rewards the ones that are desired!  So, lets learn to follow...be a great partner...learn to dance as one!  It  is the simplicity of two becoming one that is most amazing!
